A Great Advance in Cosmetic Dentistry

The world of cosmetic dentistry had certainly changed over time. The many advances have all contributed to far more painless, easier and quicker methods of improving the look and feel of your teeth. And the ultimate product of cosmetic dentistry is better than ever. Your teeth can be perfectly straight, spaced exactly right and colored with the exact shade of white they should be.

We all know how much better we feel about ourselves when we know we’re looking our best; when we don’t have attention on any negative aspect of our personal appearance. This is true in business as well as personal relationships.

Some of the reasons people may need cosmetic dentistry include stained teeth, chipped teeth, fanged or crooked teeth or spaces between the teeth.

Fixing any of these problems is now far easier than it ever was before. In fact, many of these can be helped with a painless way to reshape and permanently whiten your teeth called veneers. One type of veneer is called Lumineers.

Lumineers are a kind of porcelain veneer. With these your dentist can painlessly and permanently whiten and align your teeth giving you that great smile. They are also a relatively quick procedure producing dramatic results. Veneers such as Lumineers can change the color, shape or size of your teeth or any combination of those. At times they can even be used as an alternative to orthodontic treatment.

Veneers are an alternative to crowns. With crowns a dentist would have to shave off some of your original tooth structure to make room for the placement of the crown; a procedure requiring the use of Novocain. In contrast Lumineers type veneers are very thin pieces of specially shaped porcelain that your dentist glues over the front of your teeth with little or no need for anesthesia. Unlike crowns, your dentist won’t need to remove much of the tooth before putting on the veneer. For the normal veneer your dentist will need to lightly buff your teeth to allow for the very light added thickness of the veneer. Veneers are thin like contact lenses, and will usually only need tooth reduction of 0.5mm to 1.0mm.

The procedure for Lumineers is different than traditional porcelain veneers. It still takes two visits, but there is little to no preparation of the tooth and no need for temporary veneers.

The veneer itself will be created from an impression taken of your tooth or teeth in your dentist’s office. The process of taking this impression is quite painless. You will get temporary veneers to wear until your own veneers are ready. Once your custom veneer has been created from that impression it is glued directly onto your tooth.

Simple, easy, quick and normally less expensive than getting a crown veneers such as Lumineers won’t stain and are a very popular solution for many people looking for that perfect smile. They are strong and durable lasting from ten to fifteen years.

As a note, good communication is needed between you and your dentist to ensure you get the size, shape, fit and color that are right for you. Make sure you ask questions and discuss any concerns. This way you will get perfect veneers and have the smile you have always dreamed of.
